About us

OUR MISSION

The Spirito Foundation is a student-led nonprofit dedicated to uplifting older adults through compassion, creativity, and connection. We believe that true service begins with recognizing the worth in every person — because everyone deserves to be seen.

HOW WE WORK

We partner with local retirement communities to create meaningful programs led by student volunteers. Through music, conversation, art, and shared experiences, we build bridges between generations — bringing joy to others while growing as compassionate leaders. Our work is carried out through university-based chapters, where students lead the charge in bringing our mission to life on their campuses and in their communities.

WE'RE A FAMILY BUISSNESS

The Spirito Foundation was created in honor of Leonard & Virginia Spirito. They were caring parents, grandparents, and blessed souls who truly loved and valued their family. Through stories, memories, and now The Spirito Foundation, their love and affection lives on to comfort and support older adults all around this nation. May God bless their souls, and the whole Spirito Family.

T

CHAPTERS

The Spirito Foundation supports university-based chapters by providing guidance, structure, and resources for students to launch and lead their own service initiatives. Each chapter works closely with local retirement communities to create meaningful, student-driven programs rooted in compassion and connection. Our founding chapter, Tide4Tuscaloosa at the University of Alabama, set the standard with performances, visits, and storytelling events that inspired lasting bonds across generations.

THIS IS OUR TESTIMONY

"All my life, I have felt so much love for my family. It's hard to describe love, especially for the people who have fought so hard to raise and protect you your entire life. Yet, it's not impossible to see. My mother, Pamela Spirito Porter, speaks of her parents--of their stories, memories, and lives--with so much love, I feel like I'm living within her memory of them. Leonard & Virginia Spirito were my grandparents, and although I was young, I felt that same love my mother expresses for them all these years later. In my grandmother's last years, she lived in a retirement community similar to the one's The Spirito Foundation volunteers with. I saw all kinds of things, but to see my grandmother alone in her room during the Covid-19 Pandemic, or to imagine her waiting to see a loved one, my family and I were heartbroken. Yet, when a simple touch of the hand or turning the Hallmark channel on to watch together changed her mood, it felt like we were together at home again. That's love. The way my mother describes her parents is love. And here at the Spirito Foundation, we spread love, because everyone deserves to be seen."Kyle G.
